While directing the Innovation Programs of the USA Pavilion at Milan EXPO in 2015, Savinien worked on planning numerous events, including the two-day Innovation Summit, whose participants included the USA Ambassador to Italy, the Mayor of Pittsburg, the Director of Microsoft Italia, the Director of the World Food Center at UC Davis, and the VP of Education, Quality & Sustainability of illycaffè. A presentation of the incubated companies took place on the second day within the Pavilion.
The Feeding the Accelerator program, produced in collaboration with Savinien Caracostea and Jan Aman from AtelierSlice, re-imagined the model of a food and technology accelerator for innovative start-up companies addressing various aspects of the food-systems issues. Ten participating companies were selected from almost 100 applicants from around the world. The accelerator began with online meetings in July, and the companies came on site in Milan for the month of September. Housed at Copernico, a local tech incubator and co-working space, the participating companies were exposed to experts on food systems issues, chefs, entrepreneurs, and others. Regular visits to Expo and other programs around the city enriched the experience. Feeding the Accelerator concluded with the Innovation Summit and awards September 29 and 30, 2015.
